A Birthday Full of Cakes

Today was Aonghas's 20th birthday. Originally I didn't think we had anything planned except for a cake our mum bought from Pak n' Save, but it seemed as though this wasn't the case for others...

Aonghas and I had to lead children's worship in the morning and I ended up getting the kids to sing Happy Birthday to him (he probably expected it anyway since I've done it already once before!).

After children's worship, we went back into the hall for the main service. While there, I noticed a few of the guys weren't there and commented on it to Aonghas. We just assumed they were somewhere else rehearsing a scene from the church's Christmas play.

It wasn't till we came out after the service that we realised the guys had gone out to buy a birthday cake for Aonghas! They took me aside to let me know and we gathered a few others together and sang Happy Birthday to him again as the guys gave him a birthday cake! Afterwards, he was talking to the minister when he accidentally dropped the cake on the ground! That was OK though, as we ended up eating it at Sunday School...after another rendition of Happy Birthday of course!

Aonghas went to work after we had a meeting on organising the children's summer programme. Hamish and I had to stay behind at church to rehearse our string quartet piece with Jireh and Jenny for another few hours before we went home. While we were at home, the minister and his wife came by to drop off a birthday cake for Aonghas! The minister said he felt guilty for causing Aonghas to drop his birthday cake when he shook Aonghas's hand! That was really generous of him!

When Aonghas got home, we all went to this small restaurant in Mt Eden that has cheap dishes (which are also quite large!). We usually go there if we want to go out to eat. We managed to order maybe just as much food as we did at Grand Harbour Restaurant last week but at a third of the price! We had some hapuka fish which was yummy as usual, some beef and vegetables and some hot and spicy meet with cashew nuts which I couldn't handle too well! The bowls of rice they gave us too were huge! We were full by the time we finished our food!

We decided to go for a little drive to check out the Telecom Christmas Tree in Ponsonby, as we usually just drive by each year. We found out that there are bean bags underneath the tree for people to lie around and just watch the tree light up and the lights change colour!

There were also a few telephone booths around the tree for people to ring Santa and tell him what they want for Christmas. I gave him a call and wished for world peace and heaps of girls ;)

By the time we got home, Aonghas's birthday was almost over. Hopefully he had a good day!
