Feel the Power!

So it looks like I officially own a part of Meridian Energy, but maybe more than I wanted!

I applied for some shares on the website the day before the share offer, and put in the bank account number of my savings account.

It wasn't till the next morning when I contacted the bank just to double check something that I discovered that the savings account I entered wasn't suitable. When I asked them what I should do, they told me to just make another application with a different bank account number and the first application would just get declined. Apparently this was a common issue with the last Mighty River Power share offer.

I did that, but then the following day I discovered the amount of money from both applications had been taken from my bank account!

I soon got an email from the bank saying that usually the savings account I entered in my first share application doesn't usually allow direct debits, but they made an exception for everyone just this once.

Now I've got twice as many shares as I would have liked! Meridian Energy, you better perform well!

Impulse Purchase

Tonight after work I went to this Asian store in the city that sells all these novelty Asian gifts and was surprised to see they were having a sale with all these big discounts, like 50% off all soft toys! They had a lot of Pikachu, Spongebob Squarepants and Super Mario soft toys, as well as all sorts of other things like socks and hats.

I couldn't resist and ended up buying this

Pikachu is now sitting on the shelf in the bedroom next to those marshmellow face soft toys I bought the family for Christmas a few years ago! I don't think my parents have noticed it yet, or else they'd be asking questions right now!

I really should stop wasting my money on stuff I don't need though! Right now I don't really desire anything, but I still get the urge to buy something, even if it's for someone else! If only I had someone to spoil! haha

Doing it for the Kids?

Today after work I made a stupid mistake...or a good deed depending on how you look at it.

I was walking towards the Central Public Library when this guy in a blue UNICEF jacket approached me and I stopped to say 'hi', which is pretty much an invitation for him to tell me all about his organisation and get me to donate money towards their cause...and that's exactly what they did.

Feeling a little bad and no longer able to use the excuse that I'm a poor uni student with no income coming in (why didn't I just lie? Why? WHY?), I ended up agreeing to sponsor for a month or two and see how it goes. My job ends in a month or two anyway, and I'll soon be the one needing sponsoring!

Anyway I guess I can feel a little better, knowing that I'm donating $20 towards (hopefully) a good cause.
