Happy Belated Birthday Hamish!

Yesterday was actually Hamish's birthday, but because I was working all day and Aonghas had to work in the evening, we didn't get a chance to celebrate it. Usually our family goes out for dinner to celebrate.

We decided to go out for dinner tonight, since Aonghas has finished his uni job for the year which means he didn't have to work tonight. We were originally going to pick Hamish up from work, then go our favourite Chinese restaurant in Mt Albert, but we were having trouble getting in touch with Hamish. He's been having problems with his phone lately with the battery dying prematurely.

We only just managed to spot him waiting outside his work and picked him up, but by then it was quite late, so we changed our plans and went back to Carls Jr out west for dinner.

This would be the first time our dad had gone to Carls Jr! The burger I ordered was MASSIVE! I was definitely full afterwards!

Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAMISH!

Bye Bye Big Mac

All the vouchers have run out, and so no more free Big Macs!

Aonghas tried getting one on Thursday night, only to be told on the website that they had run out. Fortunately the night before I got another one, so I collected it last night and saved it for lunch today.

Bye bye Big Mac, we had a good run!

The Big Mac Family

Tonight we all went back to McDonald's for more free Big Macs. Aonghas and Hamish had trouble accessing their vouchers, so they ended up just buying a 'Son of Mac', which is meant to be a smaller version of the Big Mac (sorta like how there's the BK Whopper and Whopper Jr).

We decided to make some comparisons!

Son of Mac vs Big Mac

Son of Mac + Chicken Cheese Burger (I think?) vs Big Mac

And now there's even an Angus Mac!

A Big Mac Diet

Ever since Grace told me about how you can get free Big Macs from the Big Mac Chant promotion, I've been on that site voting 24/7 to get free Big Macs!

OK not really. I've only voted a couple times. You can get up to two free Big Mac vouchers a week until 100,000 have been given out nationwide. I've already had one after youth group last Friday night with Aonghas and Grace.

Today while shopping with my mum (mother and son bonding time), we decided to have some lunch - Big Macs!

I swear I'm going to get fat by the end of this promotion, but hey I'm not complaining! Thanks, McDonald's for the free feed!

Late Night McMunchies

We had a very interesting discussion at youth group tonight - sex and relationships. The boys and girls were separated and had our own discussions. We discussed things like our views on sex before marriage, how far is too far, whether there is 'the one', and other questions.

I won't write what was actually said here because what is said in the group should stay in the group!

A few of us stopped by McDonald's on the way home for a quick bite though. My brothers, Grace, Ben and I met up with Wei there, and bumped into Eva and James who were just stopping by to get something to eat. We also bumped into Cleo, which was a nice surprise since we haven't seen her in a while!

It was originally meant to be a quick thing, but we ended up staying for almost an hour (half an hour after midnight) continuing the discussion we had at church! It was quite interesting, with the different setting (more relaxed setting) allowing us to talk about all sorts of other things!

It was my week to lead worship at youth group though, and usually I would get someone to play piano to accompany me, but Aonghas has been busy preparing for exams and I felt bad for asking the others. I also had in my mind that the songs would sound better with a guitar. The only problem is that..I can't play guitar! I had a go at one of our guitars at home and quickly gave up when I just couldn't hack it.

The ukulele hasn't been too difficult to play, but it just sounds too high and tinny to be taken seriously! I discovered that there is such a thing as a baritone ukulele which is a bit bigger and sounds lower, almost like a guitar! The best thing about it? It only has four strings, so it's a lot easier to play than the guitar!

I originally was going to get Aonghas to buy one for me yesterday so I could practise last night, but they said they'd have to order it in and it wouldn't arrive till this afternoon! I guess that was OK. I just had to practise the different chord positions on my small ukulele and then transfer it to the baritone ukulele after work.

Fortunately it wasn't too hard and didn't take too long to pick it up! Hopefully worship sounded OK!

New Zealand's Newest Piecon

Today after church our mum had originally made us lunch to eat, but Winston was keen on trying the new pie KFC are selling. My mum changed her mind and let us walk across the road to KFC to buy one and give it a go.

We used an online coupon to get free regular fries along with our pie so that was a bonus!

The verdict? It was quite yummy. It had chicken inside it, and the filling tasted like potato gravy! If only it was bigger though!

Cheers for the Cheeseburgers!

You may recall a few months ago when McDonald's last offered $1 Cheeseburgers, we took advantage of this and went on a Cheeseburger-buying spree. Well, this time McDonald's has this promotion that runs till Wednesday where you have to check-in to McDonald's on Facebook and then show the person at the counter the 'online voucher'. You'll then be able to claim your $1 Cheeseburger.

My mum, Hamish and I went to McDonald's after church today with the Jireh and his family, and Tommy and his family. Since we were there, we thought we'd take advantage of this! It was quite a mission though with McDonald's free Wi-Fi not working on our iPod's! I had to resort to turning on my phone's mobile internet and then using my phone as a mobile hotspot to allow our iPod's to connect to the internet.

It was slow and painful, and my iPod was on the brink of dying but we made it! Jireh was the first to order, and when he showed the guy at the counter his iPod, the guy had no idea about the promotion and had to ask his manager. When his manager confirmed it, the guy asked Jireh how many Cheeseburgers he wanted! After Jireh was done, I asked for three Cheeseburgers and Hamish did too.

Later we picked Aonghas up from work and went back to McDonald's where he bought another five. We'll be having Cheeseburgers for the next few days!

Gamja!

Every night after work I pass this Korean karaoke place that sometimes has a food stall outside at night selling these kinds of Korean hot-dogs. This time I decided I'd try it! It wasn't too bad!

Funnily enough I had originally planned to go to the gym after work but decided to go straight home instead since I've just caught a cold!

Year of the Ice-Cream

This year I seem to be having a thing for buying ice-cream, especially those Tip-Top Trumpets and the Magnum ice-cream popsicles!

In past years I've had a thing for buying hot chips, but this year I've been trying to cut down on the chips because of the salt and oil and clogged arteries, so I end up buying ice-cream, even in the winter!

(Don't blame the photographer, blame the camera :P)

Smiggle and Food

Thursdays are starting to become a bit of a shopping day for me, having to buy prizes for my students and other various things.

I ended up catching the bus all the way to West City and bought some Smiggle rubbers for my students. It's like the fourth time I've been to Smiggle to buy some rubbers, even the girl who works there knows me by name now! I think it was my mistake to buy the kids Smiggle stuff in the first place. They seem to really like it!

I also couldn't help myself and went to my favourite takeaway place to buy a $1.00 cup of chips. The people at the takeaways shop know us as we're regulars and they recognise my mum. I don't know if they usually fill cups up this full but this is pretty good for $1.00 considering it costs about $3.00 at uni!

I've started asking for no salt just to make myself feel a little less guilty!

Double Downing It!

I feel so dirty - I just tried KFC's Double Down Burger unknowingly on the very last day it's available in New Zealand! It felt like eating two pieces of chicken, one on top of each other! (Wait...that's exactly what it was!)

I had to visit my patient again today to give him a sheet with information on the medicines he's currently taking, as well as offer him some lifestyle advice. He seemed to be impressed which was a relief because I stayed up till 4am this morning working on the assignment and then slept in till 11am, having nightmares that the patient found all these problems with my information sheet!

After my meeting with the patient, Jireh and Ben, a couple of friends from youth group were keen to hang out and enjoy my one day off work! Originally we had planned to go watch a movie, but there wasn't enough time, so I just walked down to West City to meet up with them two and we just wandered around for a while, bumping into Cleo in the process!

I went back into Dick Smith today and bumped into the salesman who tried selling me the MacBook Pro yesterday! He really tried to sell it to me again today, but after doing some reading last night I realised maybe it's not so great for its price (?)

Anyway we were getting hungry, so Aonghas and Hamish came over, we bought some bread and were served by Kassandra at checkout (HAPPY BIRTHDAY KASSANDRA FOR THE OTHER DAY!) then we headed off to KFC!

We had to get home by about 6pm, which meant we only had 15 minutes to get in, get out and go home. Hamish and I bought the full KFC Double Down Zinger Combo (upsized!), while the others who had already tried the Double Down Burger just bought a snack box.

We dropped off the other guys, then found a carpark at another nearby KFC to eat our meals...well we had to document this experience with photos first of course!

We won't be needing dinner tonight now! I also better hit the gym sometime too...

The Anti-Famine

While all those poor people are giving up food for the weekend, my brothers and I had a little pig-out today.

A little while ago this new one-day sale website Treatme.co.nz started up, offering $1 Burger Fuel burger vouchers on their site. Everyone in my family bought a voucher but never got around to redeeming the vouchers...until today!

After music teaching, we went into the city so that Aonghas could study and I could work on my assignment (I bought a 2 Degrees USB modem by the way and I must say the internet was a lot faster and reliable than the actual university wireless!). It's funny how I spend five days a week working at uni, and then I come back to uni on Saturday to study! What a life...

I tried working on my assignment for a few hours before it was 9.30pm at night. I met up with Aonghas and Hamish and we went over to Burger Fuel to get a burger. I ended up getting a $14 burger, and all I paid for it was $1! What a deal!

After Burger Fuel, we all went over to Wendy's for a bit of a feed and didn't leave till almost 11pm at night!

We're going to be fat by the end of this weekend!
